Mission

El Porvenir betters the condition of life through sustainable development in clean water, sanitation, reforestation, and health education in rural communities in Nicaragua.

Programs

We respond to requests for help from communities with water and sanitation needs -village wells, community washing facilities, latrines and reforestation. Wells are hand-dug by local people and El Porvenir provides financing for the materials to line, cover, and fence the well, and to install a rope pump. We support reforestation projects to preserve the water table on which the wells depend providing seedlings, bags, and fencing for water project communities who ask to participate. El Porvenir also works with communities to build fuel saving wood stoves that help improve women's health. All projects are accompanied by community health education. El Porvenir also offers two-week work trips in Nicaragua. Small groups work in a village, participating with local families in the construction of a water project. The two weeks includes recreational and educational activities as well as direct project construction.
