EI Matched Donation Campaign
A fundraiser supporting Empowerment International
Double your donation!
A generous donor has offered to double any donations made to Empowerment International in the next month (limit $10,000, before October 1st). Please help us to take advantage of this generous offer! Every $1 you donate will result in $2 for our programs! EI operates on a very small budget, so EVERY donation counts. Here is an opportunity to make your gift reach even further!
Where we work
Empowerment International is working in two very poor communities close to Granada, Nicaragua. One is an urban "barrio" (slum) and the other is an isolated rural community. Nicaragua is extremely impoverished (the second poorest nation in the western hemisphere) and these communities are poor even by Nicaraguan standards. Of every 10 children in Nicaragua who start primary school, only four complete 6th grade.
What we do
Empowerment International creates a community-based educational support system. We work to remove the barriers to achieving education and towards empowering the community, with the goal that the program in this community will be run by the community itself. We also offer other programs like tutoring, photography, and baseball for support and enrichment. Each day the programs shift a bit further into the hands of the community, giving them the hope and ability to believe that change can and does happen.
You can be an agent of change
We do a lot for very little at EI, and even small donations make a difference. In these troubled economic times recurring donations are particularly helpful (even $10 a month) since it gives us stability in planning. Your donation will help provide:
- Personal support system and home visits
- School supplies
- School uniform and shoes
- One-on-one peer-to-peer tutoring
- Medical attention when needed
- Help for parents to effectively support their children's education
- Access to a library at the Empowerment International Centro de Educación
- Access to a safe place to play with friends
- Private secondary schooling
- Access to enrichment programs such as baseball and photography.
Most importantly, based on EI's outstanding retention rate, children in the program will have a 98.5% chance of finishing their school year and moving on to the next one.
About child sponsorship
Child sponsorship is a great way to make a direct different in a child's life. You provide not only financial support, but also strength and motivation to the child through their knowledge that someone cares about their well-being. You can opt to sponsor a child by making $30 monthly donations (or a single $360 donation for the year). "Padrinos" receive information about the child, including biographical information, photo, letters from the child, and updates. You may also write letters to your sponsor child if you wish. We also offer the option to sponsor "half" a child for $15 per month. If you select this option you will still receive information, updates, and a letter from the child.
THANK YOU for your support! It makes SUCH a difference!

I know the founder, Kathy Adams, personally, and I *know* that every dime is being used to help these children, and according to good sense and good values. I suggest everyone who reads this consider supporting her good work with a small monthly donation. We may be in a recession, but these children have almost nothing.
