Education & Equitable Development in South Africa
Sylvia Nelson fundraising for Amandla Development, Inc.
Amandla helps grassroots education organizations in South Africa improve and expand, to empower more youth with access to quality education.
Annette Wong, Sylvia Nelson, and Jay Diaz are running three different races in different parts of the U.S. in support of Amandla Development. Amandla works to improve education in South Africa, especially for youth who are still at a disadvantage due to the legacy of apartheid. Sylvia completed the St. Louis Half Marathon on April 11, 2010 (finishing with a personal best of 1:46:43). Annette will be participating in the 5k Amazon Foundation Run for the Forest in Playa Del Rey on June 20th, and Jay will be running a half-marathon in Boston on June 27th.
Amandla's strategy is to work with local community organizations that use effective and/or innovative strategies to improve access to education and skill-building for South Africa's youth. Amandla helps these organizations scale up by improving their internal organizational structure and their fundraising as well as facilitating collaboration and knowledge-sharing among different partners in the sector.
Amandla welcomes any amount you can contribute, and 100% of your donations will be used toward Amandla's work. You can contribute at any time, either before or after we complete our races.
