ECO International collaborates with communities around the world to implement social systems and procedures that make life better.
ECO International is currently working in Bugiri, Uganda, a community of 30,000 people struggling to hold on to the most basic elements of life. We are implementing a $38,000 project funded by Rotary International to rebuild the Bugiri District Hospital water system. We are working with local government officials to establish a municipal water company, publicly owned and controlled, and sustained by local taxes and revenue. We hired an intern (Edwin Osibo) to make plumbing and electrical repairs around the hospital, to implement the Rotary International project, and to otherwise work with with local officials to repair and maintain community water systems. We pay our Assistant Country Director, Jaffer Shaba, a small stipend to supervise Edwin and to coordinate our Ugandan activities. Except for Edwin and Jaffer we are an entirely volunteer organization. We minimize our administrative costs to ensure that more than 95% of our funds are dedicated to sponsoring our Ugandan projects.
