"Sorry, but we are unable to confirm the requested dates for your time of reflection and renewal" has become a much too frequent reply!

"One of the things they failed to teach me at seminary was to pace myself properly, and take steps to prevent burnout."

We hear this again and again from pastors that come to Shepherd's Refuge for a time of rest, reflection and renewal. Many are on the verge of burnout which, if not treated, could result in failed personal ministry, broken marriage, neglected family life, discouraged congregations and communities that lack spiritual leadership.

  • 90% of pastors work more than 46 hours a week.
  • 70% of pastors say that they have lower self esteem now than when they started out
  • 80% believe that pastoral ministry affects their families negatively
  • 70% do not have someon they consider a close friend, someone they can confide in.
  • 94% of pastors feel pressured to have an ideal family
  • 50% have considered leaving the ministry in the last 3 months.

A time of reflection and renewal at Shepherd's Refuge is not a cure-all, but allows the guests to regain focus and perspective of the ministry the Lord has called them to.

In 2009 the reservation requests exeeded the available dates by far; for each one we could accommodate we had to turn another one away.

The Selah Cabin is under construction, progressing as the funds come in since no debt will be entered into. Your partnership will expedite the completion of this project, and allow more pastors to benefit from a time of rest, a Sabbath Time.

A Pastor's Heart Cry

My silent heart has longed for sounds
Of something loving and true,
Distraught by this world's recklessness,
Desiring to be renewed.

Longing for a place of rest
Where kindness and friendship flow
A place that reflects God's very best,
Where my heart can be nourished and grow.

Away in a quiet mountain home
I've found a place so grand,
Filled with tenderness, peace and love,
That helps me to once again stand.
