Over the past 8 years or so, mission teams from my college have developed a relationship with La Iglesia Bautista Cristo para Las Naciones- a Haitian church in San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic and its school La Colegio Moriah. This year, we plan to continue our relationships and the work that was previously started during our Spring break of 2013! We will serve with our brothers and sisters in Christ by doing whatever is needed- teaching English, construction, playing with the children, etc. while also learning about Haitian immigrants' unique situation in the DR and how our decisions in the US affect them. We will be going from March 8th-16th. While most college students are flying south, west and to other countries to spend their Spring breaks partaking in self-satisfying activities, we are only looking to serve God to the best of our abilities and also learn about these people and their country. We will visit CONACADO (Confederación Nacional de Cacaocultores Dominicanos), a fair trade cocoa cooperative, to learn about fair trade and its effects on communities. We will also have the opportunity to gain perspective on US-Caribbean relations through meeting with US government officials in the DR. The cost of the trip is $1,700 per person. This covers travel, food and housing. I am asking you for your help in raising this money- EVERY AMOUNT HELPS! This cannot be done without you! We hope to have all funds raised by February 15th! Remember that the objective of this trip is to serve God and the community of la Iglesia Bautista Cristo, it is not for any self-esteem boosts on my behalf.
