Women Build 2011
Women Build brings together women from all walks of life to address the housing crisis facing millions of women and children worldwide. Women Build events have helped to construct more than 1,750 homes.
Habitat for Humanity of Orange County (HHOC) serves hardworking families earning 30-60% of the area median income who cannot afford to own a home in Orange County. With Habitat, families are able to build equity through homeownership, instead of struggling to afford the average $800 per month to rent a two bedroom apartment. Habitat offers families an affordable 0% interest mortgage that they pay back over 30 years.
Nine families live in new HHOC homes and seven homes are under construction in Chapel Hill. These homes are the first of 50 homes to be built in Phoenix Place, Habitat’s affordable subdivision of green certified homes within the Rogers Road community. The concept plan was developed with community input and includes a community garden, green spaces, picnic shelter, and playground.
