Deepa's Campaign
A project of Empowerment International
After working in India with various organizations in the area of community development, I moved to Nicaragua to experience a new culture and experience working in a different country. I have been associated with Empowerment International (E.I) since I moved here in Jan 09.
E.I works in a remote rural community and an urban slum near the beautiful colonial city of Granada, focusing on creating simple sustainable solutions in the two communities, by encouraging and empowering the communities in participating in creating solutions for themselves.
Education is our primary focus and we work towards removing the barriers towards education. Our team of trained staff visits each family regularly to provide psycho-social support and identify issues before they lead to creating barriers to education.
Our programs are creating great results, this year our overall retention rate in school is 98.5%, and this is within the context of a 50% drop out rate in the country!
However the economic slowdown is affecting us greatly with each month resulting in lower income. I am appealing to you my friend, to donate to Empowerment International.
Even a small regular monthly donation ($15) goes a long way as this will help to provide stability to the organization and free us to focus all our efforts on the children and the communities.
Thank you for your time and I believe you will support us and the children of Nicaragua.
