A project of VICTIM WITNESS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
Help make a difference in the lives of thousands of people whose lives are impacted by crime in Dauphin County with your generous donation.
In 1985 Dauphin County Victim/Witness Assistance Program received 501 C-3 tax-exempt statuses and began serving crime victims. We are the only comprehensive victim’s service agency in Dauphin County. The purpose of the Dauphin County Victim/Witness Assistance Program (VWAP) is to reduce the trauma of a crime by empowering and assisting clients (crime victims, witnesses and significant others) in reconstructing their lives through advocacy, support, information and referrals. VWAP strives to prevent further victimization by intervening on behalf of our clients to address problems that are caused by their involvement in the justice system. The staff of the VWAP shall not practice, condone, facilitate, or collaborate with any form of discrimination based on national origin, color, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, political belief, religion, mental disability or physical disability.
We provide victims and witnesses of crime in Dauphin County with free services including: information, referrals, supportive counseling, crime victim’s compensation information, relocation and witness protection programs, crisis intervention, accompaniment to all court proceedings, child care during court proceedings, assistance with transportation to court proceedings and many other services.
In addition, the Victim/Witness Assistance Program is responsible for facilitating the pro se process for petitioners/clients who are interested in obtaining a protection from abuse (PFA) order in Dauphin County. We also provide 24 hour emergency services including crisis intervention, emergency protection from abuse orders and immediate on-site advocacy anywhere in the county within 15 minutes of dispatch. We serve approximately 8,000 clients each year.
