I hope you will consider sponsoring me as I participate in the BOLT 5K for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO). The race is October 13 and my goal is to personally raise funds to support this innovative orchestra that not only makes music, but makes a difference in our community.

Most of you know my current relationship with the Orchestra is through my work as BSO’s onsite CCS consultant. However, my relationship with and admiration for the BSO is older and greater than this project, which is why I actively lobbied for this assignment and why I volunteered to participate in my first 5K in over 10 years.

I have long felt great admiration and respect for the people who comprise this magnificent orchestra. I learned of Marin Alsop’s appointment as the first female Music Director of a major American orchestra while working on my MFA and wondering what the future looked like for women in the arts. Once we I moved to Baltimore, I began to attend concerts and learned about: the AMAZING programs that take music, mentors and in some cases meals to our neediest children; initiatives that encourage talented young artists and support them as they endeavor to create art as a profession; and the Orchestra's effort to share the stage with visual artists and dancers to create rich and dynamic programs that appeal to many of the senses. This is not just a stuffy orchestra that plays obscure music for devotees; this is an organization that is transforming lives and forming unique connections with the young and young at heart.
