Danebod Folk Camp centers around one very special week in August. Generations sing, dance, eat, and laugh in a dear folk school in Tyler, MN
Welcome! Danebod Folk Camp is looking for your support for our scholarship fund and to help manage Danebod's annual operating costs. A strong foundation will help our new 501(c)3 sustain and enrich Danebod. Your donation affirms that everyone should be able to experience camp, and that Danebod traditions will continue to bring joy to families for generations.
Danebod Folk Camp earned its 501(c)3 status in 2011, but has been a camper-led Danish family camp since 1948. The Danebod folk school campus in Tyler, MN welcomes about 130 campers each August, and for one week they create a tradition that bonds friends and family. Some of the campers have been coming with their families for decades, although every year there are new voices in singing and new partners to folk dance with. Danebod is great environment for kids and family, and every age group has a healthy representation. We're a welcome bunch of people who like to sing, dance, eat, tell stories, try out crafts, laugh ...and did I say eat?!
The tradition of Danebod Folk Camp grew from the Danish folk school philosophy of N.F.S. Grundtvig, who believed in life-long learning and championed Danish culture. Danebod Folk Camp and its campers adapt that vision throughout the week, developing a Grundtvig-ian spirit in the present day. We sing a mix of popular (the songsheet) and traditional (The World of Song) music, and learning dances from Scandinavian culture as well as American folk and popular styles. Each day brings chances to explore new ideas and activities through discussions, crafts, and games - all led by campers with their own talents and expertise.
