Help Pal-O-Mine Recover From Sandy and Develop their Art Therapy Program!

Alix Sugarman's fundraiser for PAL-O-MINE EQUESTRIAN INC

I am hoping to raise funds to help repair damages from Hurricane Sandy support a developing art therapy program!

Dear Friends and Family,

I am writing to you today to ask for help. As many of you know, I have spent the last year and a half developing an art therapy program in Islandia, NY at a therapeutic setting that offers services to a wide range of adults and children by using horses in treatment. Our experiential programs offer a very unique way to help clients gain insight and improve their quality of life. It has something I have seen help those in need again and again and I believe in it with all of my heart.

I am reaching out to each of you who may wish to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy to let you know that this is one way to provide that help. Pal-O-Mine has suffered greatly as a result of Sandy. Pal-O-Mine provides services to a wide range of populations that include incarcerated youth, the military, domestic violence survivors, and adults and children with mental illness, trauma, developmental disabilities and autism. We have a full schedule each week providing Equine Assisted Psychotherapy/Learning, Experiential Therapy and Therapeutic Riding services. The immense damage to the facility and time lost in providing services have and will continue to bring many challenges. I want to let the facility know know we are here, thinking of them and sending our support.

I have had the privilege of witnessing the dramatic affect both art-making and horses can have on the therapeutic process. Throughout the past year I have worked to establish art therapy services for a lock down facility in the area that houses girls ages 13-16 who have been convicted of felonies. To give these girls a chance to learn from and with our horses, using the art process to solidify these lessons, has been both powerful and effective. I can only say that Pal-O-Mine has given these girls an opportunity to experience safety and healing in a setting unlike any kind of treatment they have worked with in the past. Programs like these need your help to continue.

To celebrate my 27th birthday, I plan to host an event on Friday December, 7th in the hopes that I can rally some support from friends and family to support a cause I truly believe in. Please save the date!

In the meantime, I ask that you can make a donation of any kind to our organization today. More importantly, I ask that you take the time to pass my story along to your friends and family. If you can facebook, e-mail, tweet, update, carrier pigeon this message to those who are near and dear to you, I would appreciate it more than you know.
