We're raising $2,000 for two computer stations at the Panajxit school in Guatemala.
A donation to Cooperation for Education is truly the gift that keeps on giving. CoEd provides books, computer centers and school supplies to the children of rural Guatemala. They also provide training for the teachers so that the kids get a proper education and scholarships so that the students can stay in school instead of dropping out to work for the family.
Guatemala has one of the lowest literacy rates in the world and making a donation to this fantastic non-profit ensures that your donation will go on indefinitely, providing a world of opportunity in a country where most children have very little.
Most of the children in the CoEd program have parents that cannot even read or write their own names and another stagging statistic is that most female students in Guatemala drop out in the 2nd grade. This leaves entire generations without proper education.
It’s extraordinarily important that these children not only learn to read but get an education that inspires them and pushes them to create better lives for their future families. We traveled to Guatemala with Cooperative for Education this summer and saw first hand the incredible difference they are making in the lives of these kids and we’ve committed to raising $2,000 for two new computer stations at a rural school in Panajxit, Guatemala because we feel that learning how to use a computer is critical for them as well so they can get better jobs when they grow up.
We were really touched by not only the students but also their enthusiasm for learning. All the kids we met desperately wanted to learn, they wanted books to take home (most of them only get a book during the school hours) and learn how to use the computer. CoEd was formed by two brothers who visited Guatemala and were shocked to learn that most schools did not have any books at all. Kids used to actually steal books, so they could try to learn to read at home. The difference Coooperative for Education is making in the lives of the Guatemalan people is immense and we are really excited to be a part of it.
Thank you so much for reading our story and donating to this wonderful cause!
As an added bonus for each $500 we raise we'll be completing a crazy dare like a Polar Plung or dying our hair in the colors of the Guatemalan flag!
