COMPANIONS FOR CHILDRENS INC

Companions for Children has a goal of matching every child in Minot from a single-parent home with a caring adult mentor. Why does CfC have this goal? The answer is simple. Mentors change kids lives for the better. But don't take our word for it. Cindy was involved with Companions for Children as a youth or “Youth Companion”. Please read her story and make up your own mind!

“I believe the Companions for Children program saved my life. I was given the most special life-long friend. Before I met Diane, I had considered suicide. I was severely depressed and lonely. You get to a point where you don’t think you can take any more abuse. When Diane came into my life, she made me feel special. She was the first person to treat me as a human being. Without the Companions for Children program, I wouldn’t be here today. Keep up the good work. Thanks again.”

Companions for Children is a local, non-profit organization with a mission dedicated to helping area youth make positive decisions and to develop into healthy, productive adults. CfC recruits and screens adult volunteers to serve as mentors for youth with the goal of reducing the chances that the youth will:

• Consider suicide
• Use of alcohol and drugs
• Become depressed
• Resort to violence
• Skip school

Youth whom spend time regularly with mentors also tend toward more success in school and a greater rate of participation in higher education.
