Scholarships for Costa Rican students.
Support grassroots development and cultural exchange!
New Fundraising Goal! As the date get’s closer to the start of the program (and the end of this fundraiser), we’ve changed our fundraising goal to $1,500. This will allow us to offer five scholarships for San Luis youth (ages ~ 15-20) to participate in a special one week mini-course, joining our four North American students for the middle week of the program. For every $300 we raise, we can offer another scholarship.
The "Sendero Pacifico" is a grassroots initiative in Costa Rica to develop a network of hiking trails and huts between Costa Rica's Monteverde Cloud Forest and the Mangroves in the Gulf of Nicoya. The community of San Luis de Monteverde is taking the lead in developing these trails and huts and is hosting a structured academic internship January 2 - 24, 2013 — Community Mapping in the Costa Rican Highlands — where students will join community members in learning Geographic Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) skills that will help put trails and scenic areas "on the map" — public trails and huts will be uploaded to OpenStreetMap (OSM), a geographic "wiki."
Thanks to the Monteverde Friends US for receiving tax deductible donations for this program!
