Community Gang Initiative Matching Grant

Over the past 18 months, the Community Gang Initiative has been crafting a community-wide plan to prevent, intervene and suppress gang activity throughout Rochester. Here are some of our accomplishments:

• Mobilized 60 community volunteers to serve on solutions teams around prevention, intervention, suppression and leadership.
• Established a key group of community leaders (Governing Body) to provide oversight.
• Identified organizations intentionally targeting and providing services for high- risk and gang-involved youth.
• Awarded $26,000 through the Community Development Block Grant to establish a NW gang prevention and intervention site.

Moving forward the Community Gang Initiative has several goals:

• Community partners establish cooperative and coordinated efforts to address gang issues.
• Measurable decline in youth gang involvement.
• Parents of high-risk and gang-involved youth gain capacity for family engagement and intervention.
• Residents gain a sense of community responsibility for youth success.

Today we ask for your financial support to ensure that the community level coordination required to achieve success continues. For 2011, Mayo Clinic provided a dollar-for-dollar match for all gifts received up to $20,000.
