A project of Reach Out Honduras
On-going scholarships fund for applicants who have exhibited excellent academic potential and commitment to complete their studies.
The first 2 recipients of the Reach Out Honduras College Scholarship fund are Brian & Melchor Alastero. Melchor and Brian Alastero have completed their first year of medical school. It is a very rare thing for a Miskito child to even imagine themselves capable of ever attending medical school. The doctors here are all from the interior of Honduras or from Cuba. These 2 have a vision to return to La Moskitia and help their family and their community.
Additionally, 4 ROH sponsored students will be graduating from high school and have dreams to attend university in 2013. Dina, Deborah, Cesia and Chester are part of the Alastero extended family of orphans.
For the 2 medical school scholarships and 4 college scholarships, Reach Out Honduras needs $1500 per month. That is 6 students getting higher education for $250 per month per student.
This project shows over $6000 raised so far. This amoung was for 2012's expenses for Melchor and Brian.
Reach Out Honduras offers students a scholarship for one year at a time. The scholarships will include one year of living expenses, textbooks, enrollment fees and travel expenses. Every year, grades and conduct will be evaluated before the scholarship is granted for another year.
Sponsors, if interested, can correspond with scholarship recipients on whatever level desired.
