2011 challenge to raise awareness and funds for Kinship Partners:
“Coast to Coast for Kids.” VIA two wheels.
Gary Walters, son Jackson and daughter Jessica are taking a family adventure across the country this summer on bicycles!
The Walters family left Brainerd on July 15 and will be biking to the East coast. Then they will fly to the West coast and ride back to Brainerd expecting to arrive home on Sept. 6. (a total of 3287 miles with no sag wagon)
This marks the ninth year in a row that Walters has put his belief in mentoring and giving back to the community into action via a physical test of endurance.
In 2003, Gary biked from New Orleans to Baxter. In 2004, he lived nine days on Brainerd's historic water tower. In 2005, Gary and his children walked the length of Minnesota 425 miles in 22.5 days. In 2006, Gary swam across Lake Mille Lacs. In 2007, he lost 100 pounds in a year. In 2008, Gary and son Jackson uni-cycled for 24 hours around the track at Brainerd High School. In 2009, Gary and Jackson roller bladed to Washington DC (with Jessica on her bike) and last year Gary completed the Twin Cities Marathon.
This year Gary’s goal it to raise $25,000 for Kinship Partners as it’s the organization's 25th anniversary.
Donors who choose to give $250 or more will receive a “Coast to Coast for Kids” T-shirt.
A one-time $250 gift or a commitment of $10 a month for 25 months qualifies you as a partner in this year’s challenge.
You can also support Gary and the kids in any amount as every dollar donated helps.
