You have seen the stories on the news of the Alzheimer's patient who wandered off from the nursing home; the child who was playing in her yard and Mom turned her back for just a second...

Often in these cases, search and recue groups are called out to find missing persons. Have you ever wondered who those searchers are or what kind of training they have?

We at Central North Carolina Search and Rescue (CNCSAR) are a dedicated group of volunteers ready to search for your loved ones at a moment's notice. We have been trained and certified by North American Search and Rescue (NASAR), and are continually training to make oursleves a better team. In 2010 so far, we have already logged over 400 hours of team training time. Our training includes setting up mock searches, learning all we can about navigation and lost-person behavior.

So why would a team like ours need funds? Not only are we all volunteers, we also pay over $100 a year per team member. The majority of that money goes toward our insurance policy, as we are a fully insured team, with liability and worker's compensation policies. Each team member also purchases his or her own equipment, and pays out-of-pocket for any training expenses. We have some team equipment, such as radios and emergency medical equipment, that was actually purchased by individuals members for team use. With your help, we can provide some of the training and equipment for our team, and offset the cost of our insurance.
