How can you help the Children of South Africa with a night of drinking? Well, some of you might remember that I spent time studying in South Africa a few years back, and one of my best experiences was the time I spent as an After-School Programme Volunteer with a US-based non-profit organization called Children of South Africa (CHOSA) . Some of you are CHOSA alumni like me, or you know someone who is. And if you are one of CHOSA's fabulous supporters in San Francisco, this is a great chance to meet up with alumni who can tell you how much your support has meant to the projects on the ground!
Now, courtesy of the awesomely generous TONIC Bar, we have a chance to support CHOSA just by having drinks together! TONIC hosts regular "Guest Bartender Nights" for non-profit organizations - and donates the tips for the night!
Even better, you will get to see me and a few other alumni and friends tossing cocktails for you from behind the bar! It's a great way for me to give back to CHOSA and the kids I learned so much from during my time in South Africa, and to connect with the wider CHOSA family and friends here in San Francisco.
CHOSA uses grassroots fundraising in the US to provide support to very grassroots childcare projects initiated by the communities themselves. When this happens, communities often find ways to address other challenges together - that's why its so exciting!
Since it's formation in 2006, CHOSA has supported more than 10 different very grassroots community-based children’s projects and has raised more than $400,000 in the US to support more than 1200 kids in South Africa!
So please join us for the last great jol of the season, tip your glass (and your bartender) in support the Children of South Africa!
Let's all say "Cheers for CHOSA!"
