This march I will be travelling with Builders Beyond Borders for my second year to work on a community service project in Guyana!
During my spring break in March, I will be traveling to Guyana with a program called Builders Beyond Borders (B3). B3 is a program that engages high school students in local community service and international service projects. At its inception in 1993 there were 29 participants. B3 now serves hundreds of students and thousands of families annually. As this program grows, creating new partnerships with the Peace Corps and other organizations gives us the ability to build a better world. Builders Beyond Borders works with developing countries that are struggling to exist. Some of the countries they have worked with in the past are Peru, Ecuador, Dominican Republic and Costa Rica. Last year I travelled with many of my peers to Nicaragua. As a freshman, it was my first year and I didn’t know what to expect, and therefore was very nervous. I ended up having the time of my life and decided that I will continue with the program throughout my high school years. In Nicaragua we built a preschool classroom for a small and very poor city called Nagarote. Not only were we engaged with the work, but we also got to know the local kids and families of the village. Before travelling we were each paired up with a kid from Nagarote. Everyday you spend time getting to know your ‘buddy’ and by the end of the first day Yohanna and I were ‘best friends’. Having someone to spend time with and talk to is so important to these kids. Although they have very little they are happy with what they do have and appreciate the simplest of gestures. Spending 10 days bonding with these kids was so special and the building we built made such a difference in the lives of many. When it was time to say goodbye at the end of the trip both my buddy and I were crying. I am already anxiously waiting to meet my new buddy in March. In Guyana we will be building a much need community center in a village just outside of Jonestown. We will be working hand in hand with Habitat for Humanity and local community members. Every year B3 makes an impact on helping the world become a better place. The countries we work with each year need a significant amount of help. Every bit counts. A unique aspect of B3 is that in order for a student to go on this trip they must raise their own money. Our goal is to each raise $2750 half of which must be in by November 15th. With my eye on my goal I am reaching out to ask you to please support me by donating! Every bit counts and supports a great cause! B3 is a nonprofit organization. All donations are tax-deductible and greatly appreciated. You may also send cash or check to me through the mail. My address is 745 Verna Hill rd, Fairfield, CT 06824.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to tell others about this who may want to donate as well! Thanks again!!!!
