A few of my friends and I are going down to Biloxi, MS to work with Habitat for Humanity to rebuild houses.

My name is Charles Pelham-Ashley. I am a junior at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. I started volunteering my freshman year and have not stopped since. There is a special feeling that comes with volunteering that I love and that is why I do it. Not of fame, or glory, but just so someone less fortunate can live the life they deserve to have. My favorite volunteer story is from ASB Detroit 2008. I was working with the Ray West Memorial Ramp project and we have to build a ramp for William Reeves. William was a wonderful guy who was highly spoken of by his community but because of a terrible car accident he was paralyzed from the chest down. My team and I went out it to the cold, blistering winds of winter to complete this ramp and give William, in a sense, his life back. Because he was not able to get up and moved as he pleased, he developed a terrible attitude. After skipping dinner to complete the ramp, we watched as he rolled down it in style. The sight literally brought me to tears. The fact that might week of work just changed someone’s entire life. That is what I plan to bring to do in Mississippi. I want to be a part of the change that we so desperately need in this world. I would really appreciate it if I could be financially supported on my endeavor. Thank you.
