A project of CENTRO GUADALUPANO/HOLY ROSARY CHURCH
¡Ándale! (Let's go!) provides a blend of academic and cultural arts activities during critical after school hours.
The ¡Ándale! program is designed to meet the needs of our community’s Latino youth, who struggle with an ongoing academic achievement gap. The Phillips neighborhood of south Minneapolis is home to an estimated 7,000 children. The majority of these children come from immigrant or refugee families and are struggling to meet academic standards and adjust to different cultural expectations. Centro began offering regular after school programming in late 2007 to meet the needs of these children and their parents with a blend of cultural arts, academic enrichment and parental support.
From the beginning cultural arts have been the cornerstone of our programming. We believe the arts build youth confidence and bridge generational and cultural gaps. Students learn the discipline needed to master a song or dance, and then apply those skills to their academic learning.
