Child abuse is a pervasive and deadly crisis. This year there will be more than 1,000 reported cases in Alexandria, VA and an immeasurable number of instances not reported. There are many more vulnerable children whose parents lack the knowledge and skills to parent effectively. As a collaborative of leaders and frontline staff in the child protection, law enforcement, prosecution, social services, mental health, and medical services fields, we are positioned to mobilize the entire community in eradicating and preventing abuse, and strengthening vulnerable families.

The CAC protects children and strengthens families by coordinating the investigation, prosecution, treatment, and prevention of child abuse in 1 safe, child-friendly facility.

The Center is a public-private partnership with the City of Alexandria, and is the only organization in the City focused on child victims of severe abuse and the only one with an expertise in child sexual abuse.

The CAC also focuses on outreach and prevention programs to educate the community and stop abuse before it starts. The Center partners with public and private organizations to offer parent Developmental Playgroups, educational workshops, and other family support programs that empower families to improve their circumstances and promote the healthy development of their children.
