For my birthday, I decided to go big...challenging my body to do something I never thought possible and raising money at the same time.
Walt Disney once said, "All of our dreams can come true, if we just have the courage to pursue them." On January 13, 2013, one of my dreams will come true. I will push the limits of my body to complete a full marathon.
Despite my age, my aches, and my asthma, I am still able to attempt this feat because I have courage. I have learned to be courageous by watching people with cystic fibrosis challenge the limitations their disease tries to impose. I have learned to be courageous by listening to the loving words of CF parents sharing their stories and fighting, praying, and begging for support for a cure. I have learned to be courageous by being at the side of a dear friend as he took his last hard-fought breath, shortly before his 22nd birthday. I have learned to be courageous by spending time with not one, but two, special young ladies who lived more in their limited time than many, including me, have lived in a lifetime.
So, instead of presents or a big party, I have just one simple birthday wish this year. Help me to honor the people who have taught me how to be courageous. Honor them with a gift of more birthdays, more trips to Disney World, and more dreams coming true. Your donation and support not only goes to fund valuable cutting-edge research, but also to provide financial support to patients and families to help with the sometimes overwhelming costs of living with cystic fibrosis.
"Growing up isn't getting old...it is simply when you don't believe any more." I still believe...do you?
