Carolina Autism Supported Living Services Ltd.

Carolina Autism was founded in 2000 by professionals in the autism field who wanted to do more than was available at the time. The goal was to provide state of the art autism specific residential services for children and adults who were unable to live with their family or live alone independently. With that goal accomplished in 2004, the problem remained. Parents and case managers constantly came to us with heartbreaking cases of children, teens and adults in terrible situations who needed residential care. Besides opening several more homes we decided to try the proactive approach: Helping families and children learn skills and address behaviors so that residential placement would not be necessary, at least not until adulthood. So in 2004 we started the Applied Behavioral Services program for children. This service brings the principles of applied behavioral analysis (ABA) into the homes of families dealing with autism. This program has grown to include reaching out to school systems and helping teachers learn to better serve their students with autism. As of 2009 our applied behavioral services are delivered across the state, with hubs in Columbia and Myrtle Beach. As we have grown in size and experience, other agencies and organizations have taken notice. We have been asked to provide consultation to agencies as far away as Los Angeles, helping bring autism specific services to populations in Florida, Washington, Arizona, Indiana and more. We are sometimes paid for our services but many times families are in need but have no resources. We try to serve children regardless of their ability to pay for those services. We serve many families who are unable to access insurance or Medicaid assistance. We have served teens and adults in our residential program who were unfunded.
