Help us send 100 of our best students to Big Bear for a calculus retreat as they prepare for AP testing!

Thank you Councilmember Alarcon for your $5000 donation to Calculus Camp!

We are almost there! Help support the success of SFHS youth!

What alumni have to say about Calculus Camp:

Calculus Camp was not only a great experience that pushed my knowledge of the topic to its fullest potential, but it also helped me grow as a person. It helped me create a bond with friends in my class who also had a love of math[…] It taught me a lot about myself.

--Somitra Butalia, current senior at UC Davis

One of my best experiences in high school was attending calculus camp. I was a student who struggled in math, I had come a long way but was still having trouble with the subject and had begun to doubt myself. That weekend, I regained the strength and knowledge to continue preparing for the AP Calculus BC Exam that May […] We had teachers who took time out of their busy schedules, who showed us how much they cared for their students’ success. As a former student of SFHS, I greatly appreciate your donation that will help my community.

--Esperanza R. Class of 2008, current senior at UCSB

All About Calculus Camp:

Science and technology fields will one day employ the youth of today, and we at San Fernando High are dedicated to ensuring our students remain at the cutting edge of these fields through in and out of class experiences. Calculus Camp is a weekend of rigorous academics, bonding, and an opportunity for our youth to experience new neighborhoods. This April, 100 students will travel to a Big Bear Resort youth camp to celebrate their high school success and support each other through their final high school academic challenge, the AP exams. This is a culminating fieldtrip for our seniors who have remained academically dedicated and represent their community with pride.

Students at San Fernando High School have overcome tremendous barriers to achievement, barriers that typically trap youth in cycles of destruction, poverty, and low expectations. In our neighborhood, approximately 50 percent of students drop out of school largely due to pregnancy, addiction, gang violence, or domestic issues.

Many of our calculus students are low-income, immigrant youth who will be the first in their families to attend college. Calculus Camp not only prepares them for the trials of college, but honors their dedication and commit to the high school and their community.

Calculus Camp remains a Tiger Tradition at SFHS, and we ask for your support as we seek to provide quality education to our students under growing budget restraints. Fundraising will provide: camp rental fees, meals, transportation, materials, and Calculus Camp 2012 T-shirts.

We must fundraise $10,000 to send 100 students Calculus Camp this year.

Donations can be made online or by check made out to San Fernando High School Calculus Camp. Donations accepted through March 31, 2012.

Thank you for supporting our community and quality education.

Regards,

San Fernando High’s Calculus Students

As a person that's hard-wired toward the humanities rather than mathematics, all I have is hard-core respect for you folks! Good luck and have a great and productive experience!

Calculus is freaking hard but if going to math camp in a beautiful setting like Big Bear will help you master it, then I'm willing to give up buying lunch all month and packing up "taquitos de frijol" . Best of luck with those integrals and differentials!!!! Remember, math is super cool no matter how many white hairs you get trying to solve complex problems. Roxana Ramirez( SFHS class of 2000)

In honor of Mr. Herbert Rosenbloom, my family donated the proceeds of our New Year's Eve Fundraiser to this awesome program. What better way to honor the memory of one of the greatest math teachers ever to teach at SFHS. Good luck guys and make us all proud!
