A project of America SCORES
9 Cities, 9 Schools, 12 Songs, 226 Kids, 1 New Album
ASCAP and Psalm One (Rhymesayers Ent.), a critically acclaimed hip-hop songwriter/artist, are pleased to release Child Support, a collection of songs by Psalm One (Charm Lab Media) and America SCORES students from Milwaukee, Seattle, San Francisco, Denver, Washington D.C., Atlanta, New York, Boston and Chicago. The songs were written and recorded in the fall of 2011 through the ASCAP Songwriter Residency @ America SCORES, when Psalm One headlined a nine-city tour for the program.
The album contains nine original songs – all written and performed by Psalm One and America SCORES students, arranged by and with music by Psalm One – a tenth song, the first single, “Kids Right Now,” features rapper Mikkey Halsted. The album will be available September 25, 2012 with all proceeds benefiting the ASCAP Songwriter Residency @ America SCORES.
The ASCAP Songwriter Residency @ America SCORES is a partnership between ASCAP and America SCORES that provides a platform for songwriters to easily connect and give back to their local communities by engaging and inspiring school students in under-resourced neighborhoods. Over the course of three afternoons, ASCAP songwriters – from rising stars to Grammy Award-winning artists – collaborate with America SCORES students to write and record an original song. The ASCAP Foundation, a public charity dedicated to supporting music education and talent development, funds the program.
