Imagine not having running water inside your home. This bucket and spigot allows families to wash their hands and prevent disease.
Imagine not having running water in your home to wash your hands. This bucket with spigot provides a family a way to store water to use daily in their homes. In rural Ghana, homes do not have sinks with faucets. Daily trecks to the well to collect water is routine but inconvenient at all hours of the day.
We purchased a few of these buckets and showed them to women with children. Their eyes widened with ideas of how they could use this "running" water to teach their children to wash their hands and faces. They could use the "running" water to wash their hands before cooking.
Initially, our lessons for the women and children were about general hygiene. Simple good health practices would reduce disease. Washing hands with soap and water can make a huge difference. But without running water, it is easier said than done.
Unfortunately, when you live on $1.50/day and work long hours to provide food and shelter for your family, the cost of a bucket is out of reach. A simple plastic bucket with a spigot becomes a luxury that is unaffordable.
Can you spare $40 to purchase a plastic bucket with a spigot, for a home with children in Ghana?
