Broken Hearts exists to meet the physical and spiritual needs of the broken hearted living and working on the streets of Los Angeles.
We serve at-risk youth and runaways, individuals experiencing homelessness, those involved in prostitution, and individuals caught in the cycle of drug/alcohol addiction.
Life on the streets, while considered “freedom” by some, is similar to life behind bars. There is a sense of imprisonment by the lifestyle that has so quickly swept them up. They’ve ended up here because, at some point, they were abandoned. Which is why we go every week, committed to their journey, and providing a sense of “family”.
We strive to demonstrate the love of Jesus through relationship, resource-provision and sharing the Gospel.
Our Street Outreach Program is made up of two Street Teams, who hang out on the street from approximately 11pm to 2am in an effort to build relationships with the people who live and work on the streets late at night. We provide food, clothing, and resources to those who are hopeless and looking to get off of the street.
Our Street Retirement Fund (SRF) is a grant we provide to assist individuals in their efforts get off - and stay off - the streets. We partner with local organizations to provide financial assistance and resources, which supports and equips men and women with the necessary tools to become self-sustainable. We are also working towards our own space for a drop-in center and community housing in conjunction with individuals and organizations in Hollywood.
Our first recipient was “Big Mama”: she was struggling through a life of prostitution, drugs, and a series of abusive relationships. With the help of some trusted BHM volunteers and financial assistance from the SRF, she entered a transitional living program in Hollywood. Since then she has found stable housing, and just completed a certification program for drug and alcohol counseling. She is now helping Broken Hearts by reaching out to the young adults where she once lived.
We are currently in the process of hiring staff and missionaries and need your help in supporting their time - the most valuable resource we have for transforming lives.
We are also working towards operating a drop-in center and/or community housing.
If you would like to play a part in changing the lives of the hopeless in Hollywood, please consider partnering financially with us. Thank you!
