Breakthrough Saint Paul

The Breakthrough Saint Paul formula is simple. We take a community that believes in children, add young people who will give their time to change the world, and throw in a delightful combination of kids at the most vulnerable time of their lives - middle school. And then, we set deliriously high expectations for everyone involved - for the community to give more than seemed possible, for the teachers to work harder than was dreamed necessary, and for the kids to learn more than seemed available. It works. It’s wonderful. It’s Breakthrough!

A 2011 Wilder Research Study found that “Breakthrough Saint Paul has a substantial impact on its students.” On race/ethnicity, poverty level, MCA scores, and gender, Breakthrough students were matched with equivalent students who were not in the program. “Differences were found in favor of Breakthrough students in number of honors credits earned, grades in honors classes, grades in core classes, and growth in MCA scores.”

2011 has been an exciting year of growth and achievement at Breakthrough Saint Paul. 100% of our first class of graduates are thriving at four-year colleges and universities, having earned an average scholarship of $26,000! Furthermore, 83% of Breakthrough's culturally diverse aspiring teachers have entered careers in education.
