E-luminate

E-luminate is a service-learning program where U.S. schools create digital learning materials (PowerPoints, PDFs, videos, Word documents, etc) for vulnerable children around the world. We use your donations and participation fees to rennovate and equip multimedia centers (projector, computer, stereo system, electricity, and security) in places where students need to learn English but have very limited educational access. We provide U.S. teachers with information about our international sites and instructional materials to help facilitate the project. Along with researching, writing, and illustrating learning materials, U.S. schools also have the option of raising funds for our centers abroad. E-luminate is an ideal way to incorporate service into practically any unit of any classroom at any level. We encourage schools to create books about science, math, geography, reading readiness, English grammar, and a whole variety of other topics. Over 50,000 students, teachers, parents and community members from over 1000 schools across the country have been involved in E-luminate and its predecessor, Books of Hope. During the 2008-9 school year, we collected over 14,000 pounds of books and donated supplies.
