BICUSPID AORTIC FOUNDATION

Those of us who volunteer with the Bicuspid Aortic Foundation will always remember the day that aortic disease in the chest (thoracic aortic disease or TAD) first touched our lives. Regardless of how it happened - discovered during routine screening or caught up in the horror of a life-threatening emergency in ourselves or our loved ones - we will never forget. With the help of our Scientific Advisory Board, today we provide vital information to help others. Most people have never heard of a bicuspid aortic valve, the most common birth defect in the heart, although it is estimated to affect 2% of the population. They have never heard about aortic aneurysm (bulging), dissection (tearing), or rupture in the chest. BAV and other forms of TAD may affect people in various ways, but those who are informed can proactively be screened and receive expert life-long care aimed at avoiding emergencies.
