Great Futures Start Here. BGCGW serves over 2,000 youth on any given day.
The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington is to help boys and girls of all backgrounds, especially those who need us most, build confidence, develop character and acquire the skills needed to become productive, civic-minded, responsible adults.
BGCGW's doors are often open when schools are not. Some clubs have Saturday hours, and many offer full days of enrichment programs and activities during school holidays, as well as action-packed all-day summer camps and late-night hours for teens.
Through our five core program areas we offer a holistic approach to youth development that builds character and self-esteem, encourages good healthy habits, increases academic performance and helps develop well-rounded skills needed for success and leadership in the 21st century.
Education & Career Development - Provides opportunities for career exploration and educational enhancement, while helping youth create aspirations for the future.
Character & Leadership - Empowers youth to support and influence their Clubs and communities, sustain meaningful relationships with others, develop a positive self-image, understand the importance of good decision-making, participate in the democratic process and respect their own and others' cultural identities.
Health & Life Skills - Develops young people's capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, help them set personal goals and understand the value of productive free time, personal responsibility, work, family, and community.
The Arts - Enables our youth to grow their creativity and cultural awareness through knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts, crafts, performing arts and creative writing.
Sports, Fitness & Recreation - Encourages healthy lifestyle choices through physical fitness, good nutrition and wellness activities that contribute to the reduction of stress, appreciation for the environment, and development of social discipline and the character that comes from good sportsmanship.
