This is my first year participating in B3 and we will be traveling to Festival City in Guyana. Festival City is located in an area just outside of Georgetown known as North Ruimveldt and was the original home to one of the most famous and celebrated festivals in the Caribbean community. While Guyana is located physically in South America, it is really considered part of the Caribbean community. Festival City was actually created and developed for the inaugural Caribbean Festival of Arts (Carifesta) in 1972.

Festival City currently has many needs with one of the most pressing being the need for a place for the community to come together for meetings, clinics, classes, sporting, cultural events, and training. My team, Esperanza, will be partnering with Habitat for Humanity Guyana and a group from the community, to build such a center. The community group, Festival City Youth and Parent Organization, consists of parents and other community members that are very interested in seeing the citizens of Festival City to have such a space.
