Bedlam-IZE! Minneapolis? St. Paul? Mars? Oh yeah, Oh hell yeah!
If we're going to spend 2011 on the move, then let's have some fun with it!
You know Bedlam's not like any other theater. Taking Bedlam shows, events and just plain Bedlam to different spaces this year helps us learn more about what makes sense for Bedlam's next home. Whether you are first time Bedlam-goer or a long-standing friend and supporter, this year on the road will let us connect and re-connect you with what it’s like to BE Bedlam.
The month of May is a prime example of what it's like to experience Bedlam in new contexts all over town. We're calling it MAY-hem!
May 4-8, 2011: The Whiz: Moneyapolis at Intermedia Arts
May 11-15, 2011: Bedlam's 10X10 Fest at the Capri Theater
May 19-21, 2011: The Devil & Mr. Punch at Walker Arts Center
MAYhem!
The Whiz: Moneyapolis
Co-presented by Northrup Auditorium
Featuring choreography by New York City-based Leichter as well as a commissioned score by infamous club performer Black with added musical selections, THE WHIZ: MONEYAPOLIS is a full-spectrum original theatrical extravaganza of song and dance inspired by the movie musical, The Wiz. Shannon Blowtorch and artists from Pegasus are on board to create an atmosphere of celebration and radical queerness! MAY-hem!!!
10X10 FEST: 10th Annual Community Ten Minute Play Festival
The most expansive year of community access to art, 10x10 FEST will be on BROADWAY!!! More specifically the CAPRI THEATER on Broadway Avenue in North Minneapolis! As we continue on our quest for a new permanent home, Bedlam is meeting new artists in neighborhoods where we have never performed. We're working with the Northside Artists Collective and Juxtaposition Arts to not only explore the artistic ideas of the community but to explore community through neighborhood bike tours. Support community-based theatre at its finest.
The Devil and Mister Punch by the Improbable Theatre Company
Co-presented by the Walker Art Center
This internationally renowned puppet theater company will be performing a work in progress that promises to be "a beautiful and dirty show about love and fighting—not for the squeamish.” Bedlam is curating a local puppet spectacle and activities bringing Minneapolis puppet artists and audiences together for a hub of artistic delight.
We want to bring an aesthetic of open accessible art with a radical flare to any place or venue that’s up for a little Bedlam experience…
