Run for Day One to support treatment of youth substance abuse in Maine.
Maine is facing an opiate addiction epidemic. The state now leads the nation in percent of residents admitted for prescription drug abuse treatment (at eight times the national average). In one year Maine saw a five-fold increase in pharmacy robberies and more than 90% of its drug overdose deaths are linked to prescription drugs. Maine's youth ages 18-25 are particularly vulnerable. The good news is there are non-profits like DAY ONE who provide substance abuse and mental health services to the state's youth. For more than thirty years DAY ONE has run highly successful prevention, intervention, treatment and aftercare programs. Because of state budget cuts the organization stands to lose its funding that helps maintain its residential treatment facility. Please support me in running one of the nation's most scenic 10Ks - the Beach to Beacon - and help me support the much-needed services that DAY ONE provides. Thank you!
