Help Bain Sponsor a BDL Tournament!

Too many youth with great potential go unchallenged and unrecognized in the Boston Public School system. When they cease to feel engaged in the classroom, students may respond by dropping out, giving up, or engaging in self-destructive behavior. Consequently, the disadvantaged youth of Boston grow up without the skills to succeed in college and to compete with their more privileged counterparts in today’s economy. Competitive academic debate can change that reality. It offers a powerful means of engaging students in their own education and reversing these negative trends.

By sponsoring this tournament we will have the opportunity to see the kids in action. Bain will have several judge slots either Friday afternoon or Saturday morning where we will listen to the debaters, take notes, offer encouragement once the debate round is over, then determine a winner. (Don't worry, it'’s easy and requires no previous debate experience - they'll give us a 30 minute training in advance). We will also get to award the students with trophies at the end of the 2nd day - Often the most rewarding experience.
