As some of you may know, we are traveling to Guyana this spring with the organization Builders Beyond Borders. Builders Beyond Borders (B3), is a private, not-for-profit organization whose mission is to give high school students the opportunity to engage in humanitarian service, broaden their horizons and give them the chance to participate in unique and diverse cultures, and develop a lifelong commitment to helping others by participating in beneficial, and much needed, construction projects to help communities in need throughout the world. We also do service locally, B3 requires everyone participating to complese 6 hours minimum of community service per each year. This year, we are traveling to Festival City in Guyana. Festival City currently has many needs with one of the most pressing being the need for a place for the community to come together for meetings, clinics, classes, sporting, cultural events, and training. Our team, Esperanza, will be partnering with Habitat for Humanity Guyana and a group from the community, to build such a center.
The reason we are writing to you is because we need to raise our own money to be able to go on this trip to support our traveling expenses, as well as funding for the materials, supplies, and tools we will need to build the community center. Overall, we each have to raise $2600 by February. We would both be very greatful if you could help out by supporting my involvment in B3. All donations are tax deductible and will directly contribute to help the trip to Guyana in March 2013. Builders Beyond Borders in a non-profit organization and an excellent opportunity to help others.
