iPads for Adults with Disabilities

Technology has long been an exciting venture for people of all ages and is a part of what drives us forward. The recent development of the Apple iPad however has sparked a real revelotion in technology for people with disabilities.

Many of us take for granted the ability to communicate with one another, or the ease of writing, reading, or learning. For so many adults with disabilties this has long been a struggle. Thanks to the iPad, and some innovative software, these barriers are quickly being knocked down. For some it gives them a voice where they had none before, for the first time they can create sentences by pointing to pictures of objects and connecting them together and the computer says the sentence for them. For others, it has provided completely new ways to learn that have either not been available to them at all, or simply were to expensive for the average family to afford.

At WACOSA we're witnessing first hand the power of the iPad. Thanks to generous donations we have a one iPad to nineteen client ratio. We would like to reduce that ratio and be able to provide life changing applications on all of our iPads We serve over 500 adults with disabilties, so you can see that several iPads just are not reaching enough people.

We ask you today to consider donating to this special request. Each iPad costs about $500.00, however, any amount you can give will help reach our goal of ensuring each of our five program areas has multiple iPads available to our clients.
