Aunt Hattie's Place is a family-style residential care program for at-risk foster boys. Often our residents need a long-term home.

Aunt Hattie's Place, Inc. (AHP) founded in 1997 by Dr. Hattie N. Washington, a professor of education who teaches teachers to teach challenging children, and then Assistant Superintendent for Baltimore City Schools.

AHP was established to provide long-term community-based residential housing with a family-like environment to young boys, 13-20 years old, who are wards of the foster care system while in their youth. AHP initially provided homes to eight (8) at-risk children. However, in response to need professed by Department of Social Services, AHP underwent an expansion and in 2001 began to provide homes and services to twelve (12) children, ages 9-15 years old at one residence located in the Forest Park community of West Baltimore, And, in 2003 another AHP facility was opened in Randallstown, Baltimore County Maryland, which is home for six (6) youth ages 16 and above.

In June 2010, the doors were opened in Sandy Spring, Montgomery County to another eight (8) youngsters, who are ages 13-20 years old. This AHP expansion brings closure to a 5-year outreach project to provide homes for foster boys in Montgomery County.

Many of the boys raised within our walls, where they call home, have gone on to attend various 2-year colleges, 4-year Universities, joined a branch of America's Armed Forces, and pursued certification in various trade programs.

Although, it is difficult for us to acquire information on these children once they have left our program because of the "Right to Privacy Act", from time-to-time we hear from them and they share their successes with us.

AHP is a 501c3 charitable organization, operating according to the guidelines of the State of Maryland regulations that has a ten member Board of Directors, and is licensed by DHR.
