Assistive Technology and financial grants for adapted equipment
A fundraiser supporting United Cerebral Palsy of Central Minnesota
Harry was faced with living a life of isolation in a rural community. Using a wheelchair and lacking accessible public transportation, Harry was unable to get out and about. When he received a computer through UCP's Computers go Round program, he was connected to the Internet and could do social networking with friends and family, shopping, research, read daily newspapers, and connect with people.
Jamie is ten years old and has cerebral palsy. His friends in the neighborhood all had bikes, but Jamie needed a bike with special adaptations for the foot pedals and the handlebars. After checking out a variety of models at UCP's Adaptive Bike and Recreation fair, his family and physical therapist knew just what he needed. UCP helped the family find financial assistance grants to help pay for the bike, and soon Jamie was out in the neighborhood, getting exercise and enjoying his friends and new-found freedom.
