We help give form to ideas, providing community access to professional manufacturing equipment, education, and a creative community network.
Artisan's Asylum is a nonprofit community workshop and makerspace in Somerville, Massachusetts. We provide public access to high-end manufacturing equipment, including woodworking, machining, welding, electronics, screenprinting, fabricworking, digital design & prototyping, and bike assembly & repair. We provide classes and training on our equipment and in design and engineering skills, membership-based access to equipment, over 150 private studio spaces, and storage for projects of all shapes and sizes. Our mission is to make creative expression through the use of tools a sustainable way of life for our members and community.
Since our incorporation in May of 2010, we have grown from 1,000 to 40,000 square feet, increasing our membership from 2 people to over 500. We offer a training program of over 30 classes a month and provide public access to over $300,000 worth of equipment that our members would not otherwise have access to. Our members have used our facilities to create multidisciplinary projects that have raised over $3M in venture capital, $2.5M in crowdfunding, and that have become an integral part of our local economy and community.
We seek your support to improve the quality of services we provide to our users, to increase the scope and reach of our educational programming, and to help keep our prices low in order to be as accessible as possible. Help us improve the working environment and serve a greater portion of our community to create ever more ambitious projects!
