The Minnesota Anti-War Committee organizes rallies, marches, educational forums, street theater, and civil disobedience actions to challenge the injustices of U.S. foreign policy. We believe in peace through justice, and stand in solidarity with oppressed people here and abroad. As the war in Afghanistan continues, our urgent campaign is to end the occupation and bring U.S. troops home now.

U.S. Out of Afghanistan!

Despite claims that the U.S. is ending the war in Afghanistan, 68,000 U.S. troops remain. While the U.S. government talks about withdrawal by the end of 2014, there are plans to leave thousands of U.S. troops in Afghanistan until perhaps 2024. The war has already produced a horrendous human cost of dead and injured, as well as a huge financial cost.

No New Wars! No Sanctions!

Both Democrats & Republicans are increasingly calling for “humanitarian intervention” in Syria to protect human rights & for military action in Iran to “protect” us from their nuclear weapons. As people who support peace & justice it is important that we take a stand against U.S. wars in both these countries!

The U.S. is currently using sanctions against Syria & Iran. There is a misconception that sanctions are a diplomatic tool or a method of humanitarian intervention. Sanctions target the civilian population, especially children under 3 and seniors. More people died from U.S./UN sanctions in Iraq than died in the bombings in Hiroshima & Nagasaki combined.

Palestine

We oppose the Israeli occupation of Palestine. Land confiscation, harassment at checkpoints, and violent abuse from Israeli soldiers are part of daily Palestinian life. From 2009 to 2018, the United States is scheduled to give Israel--the largest recipient of U.S. assistance--$30 billion in military aid, which funds this oppression. The Anti-War Committee supports the Palestinian right to return, the dismantling of illegal Israeli settlements, and an end to construction of an “apartheid wall” currently being built on Palestinian land.

Colombia

Several members of the Anti-War Committee have traveled to Colombia on human rights delegations to witness the effects of U.S. imperialism firsthand. The U.S. has given over $6 billion to the Colombian government since 2000. This money is used by the army and by paramilitary death squads to wage war on the Colombian people. We oppose all aid to the Colombian government and support the Colombian people’s right to decide their own future free of U.S. intervention.

Justice at home

In addition to working for a just foreign policy, the Anti-War Committee is committed to justice for all in this country regardless of sexual orientation, immigration-, welfare-, or any other status. We work in coalition with groups like the Welfare Rights Committee, the Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee and Students for a Democratic Society at the University of Minnesota.
