On April 15th, 2013 15 Playworks advocates will be running the 117th Boston Marathon in support of Playworks Metro Boston.
Petrina and I will be racing Boston this year to complete the World Marathon Majors (Berlin, New York, Chicago and London all done) in 5 years and in so doing supporting a wonderful charity called Playworks. Founded in 1996, Playworks is the only nonprofit organization in the USA providing trained, full-time play coaches focused on recess to hundreds of underserved schools in many urban areas. Playworks also provides training and technical assistance to schools, districts and youth organizations that wish to include inclusive, healthy play as part of a positive learning environment. When Playworks partners with a school, kids are more physically active and they return to class focused and ready learn. As a result of Playworks, 85% of principals report that students are more enaged in school. The safe and healthy play Playworks brings to schools helps students succeed in the classroom - and in life. Playworks is currently operating in 32 low-income elementary and K-8 schools across Boston and Revere, energizing education for 15,000 students daily. We have adopted the Blackstone Elementary School where the majority of its 580 students are from East Boston. Our fund-raising efforts will ensure Coach Jay at The Blackstone continues his excellent work in providing healthy play during recess time to his student population.
Thank you very much for your support.
