I can not put into words how important and excited I am to start this journey. This has been a dream of mine since I first fell in love with running back in elementary school. I was a pretty athletic kid but never had confidence in myself. I remember we had a tryout for long distance running in the 8th grade. I was so nervous, didn't want to come in last, and I had never run that far! My gym teacher gave me such an amazing pep talk and just asked me to do the best I could..just try. I came in 14th place out of over 100 kids. That was the day I fell in love with running. The confidence I felt from my efforts and the coach telling me I did such a great job meant the world to me. That is why I feel physical eduacation and fitness are so important to people of all ages. We all love a pat on the back or being proud of ourselves for the effort we give when we are part of something special or important.
My mission as a parent is to inspire my two children, Jake and Kaylee. I want them to be proud of their Momma and know that it is possible to achieve your goals, even very tough ones, if you set your mind to it. My husband Jeff and I have made sure our little ones stay active and are part of a sport every season. Not only for the physical fitness, but for the reward of friendship, teamwork, comradery and confidence. You can't put a price tag on the lesson learned, the memories and the friendships that are made.
I am a very positive thinker and my mind is set on finishing the marathon if it takes every ounce of energy I have! I will be thinking of my kids, their friends, their teamates, their classmates, and thinking about their futures and how supportive we all are of raising healthy smart kids, so they can raise their own healthy smart kids!
Please support my efforts to make sure Bay State Games continues to have success helping all our future stars, to our older loved ones. I didn't make the team in 8th grade but, it made such an impact on my life. I did make this one and I am going to make it a fun and rewarding adventure!
