I am hoping you would consider making a tax deductible contribution to help me reach my goal to travel to Guyana this February with B3.
B3 is a non-profit organization that gives high school students the opportunity to engage in humanitarian service, strengthen awareness of diverse cultures, and develop a commitment to helping others by participating in construction projects to benefit impoverished countries and communities throughout the world. I am very proud of this organization as I embark on my third year of commitment to them.
In February 2013, my team will go to Guyana in South America and we will build a community center for youth and families in a town called Berbice. The town is part of a group of communities called KingChes, in the eastern section of Guyana. The new KingChes Community Center we will build will include educational assistance programs, literacy and health education classes and organized sports and games. I am excited to be part of this project and to work along side the members of the community. We have been asked to also help work on their land cutting sugar cane and working in the rice fields. This will be an incredible personal and educational experience for me.
I have been very successful with my fundraising mostly due to you, my friends and supporters. Because of that, I only have ONE more year of fundraising to complete my four year commitment. That is very exciting news as it means that I can work harder towards giving this experience to someone that does not have the means to raise the funds alone.
One of the unique things about B3 is that each student must raise all of the money for their travel expenses and for their share of the building materials. Our parents are only allowed to give us the original deposit. We have to raise the entire $2500 on our own! B3's policy of participant fundraising allows us teenagers to feel that we can make a change in this world for the better.
