CHOSA believes that people should tell their OWN stories so who better to photograph life in S. Africa than the children, themselves?

CHOSA's Arts Initiative has been offering a creative outlet for the children in our afterschool program since 2006. Through the cooperative efforts of students, professional photographers and many others, we have been able to lead a number of photo workshops in which the children are given 35mm point-and-shoot cameras and an assignment to take pictures in and around their own communities.

We bring you Amafoto Ethu with great pleasure - and hope that you will enjoy seeing the works of the children of Baphumelele Children's Home and Emasithandane Children's Project.

Our first stop will be in Washington, DC on June 3, 2009. Space has been most generously donated by the Elizabeth J Somers Women's Leadership Program at the George Washington University.

Plans for events in Philadelphia, Chicago and New York are in the works. If you would like to organize an event to display these photos in your area, please be in touch with ellen@chosa.org!

Please join us for a traditional South African BBQ (braai), an exhibition of the children's photos and a chance to support CHOSA's important empowerment work in South Africa's disadvantaged communities. While there is no ticket price for this event, all donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowable by law and go directly to CHOSA. No transaction or credit card fees will go to Razoo.

The event will run from 6-9pm at The George Washington University's Mount Vernon Campus (2100 Foxhall Road NW, Washington DC 20007)

For details, please email ellen@chosa.org or call (215) 301-0161

Special thanks to The Elizabeth Somers Women's Leadership Program (http://gwired.gwu.edu/wlp/aboutwlp) and The Behar Family in making this event possible!
