ALIVE INC

ALIVE! (ALexandrians InVolved Ecumenically) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization of volunteers from over 40 religious congregations and the community working together to help those in need in Alexandria, Virginia. Founded in 1969, ALIVE! is the largest private safety net for the needy in the city of Alexandria, addressing short-term to long-term needs for those less fortunate in the community.

ALIVE! serves thousands Alexandrians annually with shelter; low-cost early childhood education and childcare; financial help for rent, utilities, medical care and other critical needs; emergency food; and deliveries of donated furniture and houseware.

Last year, ALIVE!’s Family Emergency Program responded to 902 requests from households for emergency food; ALIVE!’s Last Saturday Food Distribution Program answered 8,064 requests with a 3-to-5-day supply of groceries at three different sites; ALIVE! House provided 2,950 bed nights to 11 households of 11 adults and 19 children; ALIVE!’s Child Development Center afforded award-winning full-day preschool education to 48 children, 95% of whom were “at-risk;” and ALIVE!’s furniture program supplied over $70,000 worth of furniture to struggling families.

More than 700 ALIVE! volunteers work to alleviate the suffering caused by poverty and dramatically improve the lives of those in need in the City of Alexandria. ALIVE! is Alexandrians helping Alexandrians.
