Alia's Arctic Plunge!
A project of Friendship Ventures dba Children's Disability Service
I will be plunging into the frigid waters of Maple Lake to raise awareness for the therapeutic horseback riding and other programs at CCF.
Well folks, call it a publicity stunt or call it just plain nuts, but I am participating in this year’s Arctic Plunge in Maple Lake…or INTO Maple Lake.
Yes, to support the programming Camps of Courage & Friendship offers, I am jumping into a frozen lake and will likely dress like an equestrian and ride a stick horse into a hole in the ice. WHY? Because The Farm of Courage and Friendship is part of Camps of Courage & Friendship; and me riding into the frozen abyss will only help support the therapeutic horseback riding programs I direct!
Without the support of many, those with a wide range of abilities would not have the opportunity to attend the therapeutic horseback riding program (beginning in MAY!!!!), our camp programs, travel programs, adventure programs or respite programs. In order for me to leap, PLEASE consider taking a leap of faith and donating! I need AT LEAST $100.00 in order to do this crazy thing…but, the more money I raise, the more many will benefit from the amazing horse friends!!!

Camps of Courage & Friendship is excited to partner with the Maple Lake Property Owners Association (MLPOA) to bring you this year’s Arctic Plunge! Ed Stracke, Camps of Courage & Friendship CEO and Steve Holst, a long time camp volunteer, employee and participant, and Alia Mortensen, Director of Therapeutic Horseback Riding have agreed to take on the challenge and they need your support!
The Arctic Plunge is a part of the Maple Lake Ice Fishing Derby which is in its 38th year. The plunge will take place Saturday, February 2, 2013 with registration beginning at 9am on Maple Lake just off Highway 55. The first plunger will jump at 10:30am. Plungers are encouraged to dress up with cash prizes for the top three costumes. Each plunger must raise/donate a minimum of $100 to jump and may jump in groups up to five. All of the proceeds from this event go back into the community supporting these organizations!
Camps of Courage & Friendship’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities, their families and caregivers through services that support individuals to achieve their highest level of self-worth, independence and participation in a community.
